A few days ago, a new website for Unlight has been released.

From the one and only blog post on that website, it appears that the trademark of Unlight (Web version) had been acquired by a company called “CPA cooperation”, and the game is now open-sourced under the Creative Commons license (CC-BY-ND).

The files of the game have just been released (on 3rd Aug, 2019) and can be downloaded via Github. If you try a little bit, you can also find all the Rare Card stories (in Japanese and Chinese) there. At the same time, the moderator of Unlight’d Chinese official Facebook group made a new post, leaving a mysterious message:

dfdfdfdfd

“With a new flow…”

What do all these imply? Is this the certificated death of the game, or implication that it will reborn in some other forms? It’s yet to be seen. (But if I have to make a guess, I think that’s the end of it.)

While I lack the programming skills to analyze the game files, I’ve found some interesting theories about this situation.

Note that “CPA Cooperation” is a new company which appears to be found on August 2018, but the head of the Cooperation is an accountant who had been working with Techway (the original owner of Unlight) for a long time. It is rumored that this transition is to allow miya legally creating his new Unlight-related games (you can check them out at his Twitter). Moreover, this could allow some other company to recreate the game, as it’s impossible to run the game again using Flash (refer to the mysterious message above).

Anyway, we’ll have to wait and see.
